The Chemistry of Baseball

SMACS presents the chemistry behind various balls used in sports

SMACS participated in the Mississippi State Philosophy of Baseball event sponsored by the Department of Philosophy and Religion. We manned a tent and presented “The Chemistry of Baseball”. Participants were able to see various balls (baseball, softball, tennis ball, etc.) cut in half and the layers of materials used to make them. A raffle was held where constestants had to guess the number of “Big League Chew” gumballs that were in a 2000 mL graduated cylinder. The top 3 winners won prizes.
