The SMACS CHEMISTRY EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP was established by the 2019 SMACS officers Zoe Fokakis, Olivia Murtagh, Sydney Canaday, Ruby Hall, and Keely Russell, SMACS advisor Dr. Eric Van Dornshuld and Department of the Chemistry and Department Head, Dr. Dennis Smith.
The Student Members of the American Chemical Society (SMACS) at Mississippi State University is an undergraduate student organization that promotes academic excellence, professional development, and community involvement through the collaboration of chemistry students, faculty and staff. SMACS is an active member of the national organization, the American Chemical Society.
MSU SMACS strives to cultivate leadership and promote science through education and demonstration. To achieve these goals, MSU SMACS offers leadership roles in officer and committee head positions. The organization continues to further these goals by encouraging personal initiative in its members to develop creative ideas for fundraising awareness, promotion, social, and educational events.
The Mississippi State University Foundation agrees to use donor’s gift to establish the SMACS CHEMISTRY EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP for deserving students enrolled at Mississippi State University. The recipient of this scholarship shall be a student in good standing.
This scholarship is designed to provide supplemental support to dedicated and exceptional SMACS members to recognize their commitment to the organization. Candidates for the SMACS CHEMISTRY EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP must meet the following criteria:
The University Scholarship Committee administers the scholarship program at Mississippi State University. Any scholarships will be awarded on a year-to-year basis. Students who are recipients one year are eligible for consideration in any other year; however, they must again comply with the selection criteria.
Each award will be for \$1,000 per year or \$500 per semester. Funds will not be given directly to the recipients; rather, the university business office will credit recipient’s tuition and fee expenses each semester.
